How to choose the right sole for your shoes?
Reading times:25  Update time:2026-05-15
Rubber sole: a "versatile athlete" with wear-resistant and anti slip properties
This should be the most common sole material.
Advantages: Very wear-resistant, strong grip, usually good anti slip effect, and waterproof.
Disadvantage: Relatively heavy, if the sole is too thick, the foot feel will be too hard.
Suitable scenarios: outdoor shoes, sports shoes, canvas shoes, and most daily commuting shoes. If you want a pair of shoes that can't be worn out, choosing a rubber sole is definitely the right choice.
EVA/foam bottom: the source of "stepping on shit" for lightweight cushioning
Many running shoes and casual shoes have midsoles made of this material.
Advantages: Super lightweight! Good elasticity, soft to step on, first-class cushioning effect.
Disadvantages: Not wear-resistant, relatively poor support. Wearing it for a long time can easily cause it to collapse and lose elasticity, and it is also prone to slipping when exposed to water.
Suitable scenarios: running, long walks, daily leisure (pursuing lightweight foot feel).
Polyurethane Bottom: Q-elastic and Durable 'Middle School'
Advantages: Combining the wear resistance of rubber with the lightness of EVA, providing a comfortable and elastic foot feel, and not easily deforming.
Disadvantage: There is a fatal weakness - fear of hydrolysis. If shoes are left unused for too long (especially in humid environments), the soles of the shoes may self powder and break.
Suitable scenario: Many leather shoes, work boots, and some sports shoes will be used.
Bull tendon bottom: the "handle" of the anti slip world
A semi transparent rubber base with a hint of yellow color.
Advantages: Strong anti slip performance (even on wet and slippery surfaces), excellent flexibility, and no matter how it bends, it is not easy to break.
Disadvantages: The appearance is relatively simple, and it is easy to absorb dust and become dirty.
Suitable scenarios: indoor sports shoes (such as badminton and table tennis shoes), shoes worn on rainy days.
  Leather outsole: premium but delicate
Commonly seen in high-end formal leather shoes.
Advantages: Excellent breathability, very textured, and will fit your foot shape after wearing for a long time, appearing very high-end.
Disadvantage: Very afraid of water, it becomes useless as soon as you step on it; And it's not slip resistant, it's easy to "skate" on tile floors, and the wear resistance is also average.
Suitable for business occasions and formal wear in dry environments.
Summarize how to choose:
If you pursue durability, slip resistance, and walking on rough roads  Identify the rubber sole accurately.
If you pursue lightness, flexibility, and not tiring feet   Choose sports shoes with EVA material.
If you are exercising indoors or afraid of slipping  The bottom of the cow tendon is the most stable.
If you are supporting the scene in a formal occasion   The leather sole is the most stylish (but remember not to wear it on rainy days).
